It may be a lack of education. It may be a matter of just not caring. But as one homeowner noted at the TVPOA annual meeting, whatever the reason, we still have neighbors who are not being responsible about their dogs' poop on public walkways.
The issue needs to be taken seriously, folks. Dog waste is an environmental pollutant and a health hazard. It contains bacteria, parasites and pathogens that can directly and indirectly cause illness.
Looking at the big picture, there are almost 90 million dogs in the United States, but recent data indicates that only about 60% of dog owners consistently pick up their pet's poo. We can beat that number with a little more effort.
Here Are A Few Encouraging Reminders
ALWAYS carry poop bags with you whenever you're out with your dog.
PICK IT UP! Every. Single. Time.
TIE THE BAG closed and toss it in the garbage when you get home.
DO NOT put dog poop in a compost or yard waste bin.
REMOVE the poop in your own yard on at least a weekly basis, and before a big rain.
